Espresso machines are milk, oil and bean residue magnets. A clean schedule keeps taste pure and parts alive — this guide gives the exact routine for daily, weekly and monthly care.
Cleaning is cheap; replacing a boiler, group or steam valve is not.
Daily routine (2 minutes)
Flush the group and wipe the portafilter and steam wand immediately after use. Purge the steam wand for 1 second post-steam to prevent dried-milk clogs. Empty the drip tray when it is half full.
Weekly routine (15 minutes)
Backflush with a cleaning tablet if your machine supports it (semi-automatics with 3-way valves). Wipe the casing, remove and rinse the shower screen, and lightly clean the grinder burrs.
For bean-to-cup machines, run the clean cycle and wipe the milk spout or frother with a damp cloth.
Monthly routine
Deep-soak the portafilter and baskets in hot water with a drop of detergent. Replace the water filter (or per its indicator). Wipe seals and inspect for scale.
