Our Verdict
The Essenza Mini is proof that pod espresso needs almost no machine at all: a 19-bar pump, two buttons, and a footprint smaller than a hardback book. It brews the same Original-line shot as machines three times its price. For desks, dorms, offices and minimalists, it's all the Nespresso you need.

Pros & Cons
What we love
- Same 19-bar extraction as flagship Original machines
- Absurdly small — fits any desk or corner
- Third-party capsules from $0.40 keep running costs sane
- Frequently on sale near $100
What could be better
- 0.6L tank refills constantly with regular use
- No milk anything — pair a frother
- Plastic build, audible pump
Performance Testing
Shot quality is the Original-line standard: tight crema, intense concentrated coffee that holds its own in milk. In our blind test against the $250 CitiZ, identical pods produced indistinguishable cups — the Mini's pump and thermoblock give nothing away. The small tank is the only real running friction.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Nearly nothing: eject pods, rinse the tray, descale twice a year with the two-button sequence. The tiny tank at least means the water is always fresh.
Who It's Best For
Solo espresso drinkers, offices and travel setups, and anyone testing whether the Nespresso lifestyle suits them before spending more.
How It Compares
Nespresso Essenza Mini vs Nespresso Vertuo Plus
Choose Vertuo for big mugs; the Mini's Original system is better and cheaper for straight espresso.
Nespresso Essenza Mini vs Keurig K-Slim
Similar compact mission; the Keurig brews mugs of drip-style coffee, the Mini brews espresso — different drinks entirely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is anything sacrificed vs. bigger Nespressos?
Tank size, cup-size presets and materials — not extraction. The shot itself is full Nespresso quality.
Best third-party capsules?
Peet's, illy and Starbucks make excellent official-licensed ones; specialty roasters like Artizan offer fresher single-origin options.
Can it make an americano?
Brew a lungo, then top with hot water from a kettle — the classic Mini workaround.
