Our Verdict

Three seconds from off to brewing. The Bambino Plus packs Breville's ThermoJet heater, PID control, low-pressure pre-infusion and — remarkably at this size — automatic milk texturing into a chassis smaller than a toaster. It's the machine we recommend to anyone short on counter space or patience.

Pros & Cons

What we love

  • 3-second heat-up genuinely changes your mornings
  • Automatic milk frothing rivals hand-steamed microfoam
  • PID + pre-infusion at a compact-machine price
  • Quiet operation

What could be better

  • No grinder — budget for one separately
  • Light body; portafilter locking can shift the machine
  • Small drip tray fills fast

Performance Testing

The ThermoJet's recovery is instant: we pulled six consecutive doubles with no measurable temperature drift. Shot quality with the single-wall basket and a good grinder is flatly excellent — sweet, balanced 1:2 shots in 28 seconds. The auto-steam wand hit 140°F silky microfoam that poured a passable tulip on our first attempt; purists can still steam manually.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The auto-purging steam wand cleans itself after every use — the single best hygiene feature in this class. Otherwise it's the usual rinse-and-flush routine, with a descale cycle built into the controls.

Who It's Best For

Small kitchens, impatient people, and latte drinkers who want automatic microfoam without a super-automatic's footprint or price.

How It Compares

Breville Bambino Plus vs Gaggia Classic Pro

The Gaggia is more durable and moddable; the Bambino is faster, easier and steams milk for you.

Breville Bambino Plus vs Breville Barista Express Impress

Same shot quality DNA — the Impress adds the grinder and assisted tamping if you have the space and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Bambino Plus need a separate grinder?

Yes, and it deserves a good one. Pre-ground supermarket coffee in the single-wall basket will disappoint; the dual-wall basket is the fallback.

What's the difference from the standard Bambino?

The Plus adds automatic milk texturing, auto wand purge, and a larger tank — worth the ~$200 for milk-drink households.

Can it steam alternative milks?

Yes. Oat milk (barista editions especially) textures beautifully on the auto setting; almond needs the lowest froth level.
